Amy Black started her own piano studies at a young age where she demonstrated an incredible gift to sightread piano music -- a gift that has benefited her throughout her musical career. For the past 15 years, Amy has focused on her piano teaching by cultivating the strengths of her students and helping them discover their own incredible musical gifts.
Amy's current students consist of young students to adults at all levels from beginning to advanced. As such, her methods are adapted to create an individual learning experience given the breadth of diversity with her students.
After teaching piano overseas in Okinawa, Japan for 12 years, Amy and her husband returned to Bellingham to be closer to family. Upon her return, Amy has co-founded the Bellingham Music Enrichment Project (BMEP) and serves as its Executive Director. BMEP is a 501c3 arts organization she and her husband, Dr. Tim Black, started to provide musical opportunities for all ages. Currently, BMEP supports three community choirs: The Bellingham Community Chorus, The Whatcom Sound Jazz Singers and Allegra Women's Chorus.
Amy received her BA from Whitworth University in Music Education with an emphasis in choral music. She is also the recipient of an endorsement in Piano Pedagogy.
Currently, Amy is a member of MTNA, WSMTA, and BMTA. All professional music organizations which promote music education.
