Product Description

Scot Ranney is a jazz pianist from Bellingham, Washington who plays and composes music full time. He also publishes jazz piano books, travels the world playing piano, and designs websites for a small group of clients.

Scot’s mom played the piano and the story is that as soon as Scot could reach his hands up to the piano keys he delighted in making as much noise as possible. His mother taught him a few things on the piano for a while but sent him to a private classical piano teacher around age 7 and over the next 12 years learned classical repertoire and especially enjoyed Bach, McDowell, and Mozart.

Scot’s professional career started 1987 and soon after that he had an opportunity to play music in Seoul, Korea, where he played in an R&B band at the nicest night club in town. Scot would lead bands in Asia for the next several years before returning to Seattle where he ran bands on a riverboat called the Queen of the West and regularly played in the Northwest in clubs, concerts, and for private events.

In the late 90’s Scot moved to Aspen, Colorado, where he found a job as the house pianist at the prestigious Ritz-Carlton, Aspen, and enjoyed living in the Rocky Mountains for the next few years before returning to the Northwest.

Scot’s currently based in Bellingham, Washington. When he’s not living in Hong Kong and other parts of Asia to play music, he continues to play jazz piano for concerts and events along the entire west coast, from Vancouver to San Diego.

Scot had his start in jazz piano when Don Lanphere, a great be-bop sax player from the bop era, introduced him to Marc Seales, one of the great jazz pianists of our time and who currently is the jazz piano professor at University of Washington in Seattle.
